 The last half of the
twentieth century marked the first time in
recorded history that interest in building the
body and physical fitness for civilians was
inordinately emphasized. Books, videos,
magazines, audios, internet services, seminars
and workshops, nutritional supplements, exercise
equipment, TV shows and infomercials have
descended upon the public in a deluge of
information. Unfortunately, the vast majority of
this information was false, unscientific and, in
the case of certain exercise and dietary
products, downright dangerous. During this
period, certain individuals made the attempt to
discern what science (i.e., valid knowledge of
precise facts of human physiology) could suggest
in answer to the question of what human beings
could and can do to improve their physical health
and fitness. Among those individuals was John
Little, who made the attempt to decipher the more
profound studies made by exercise physiologists
(some dating back to the turn of the previous
century) and to discern what could be
extrapolated from this scientific data for the
benefit of those who sought a greater level of
health and fitness. The results of Johns
attempts are to be found in his books and audio
lectures on the subject but the battle
continues. A great enterprise and industry has
arisen on the grounds of exercise, filled with
unscrupulous characters that care not about your
ability to get stronger and healthier, but
everything about your ability to buy their
products. This includes
supplement companies (who are the worst abusers
of science in this regard and whose
propagandistic advertisements literally fill most
health and fitness publications these days) and,
by extension, the editorial position of most
health and fitness magazines who depend upon
these advertisers as their very lifeblood. The
problem continues; people who read these
publications, particularly personal trainers and
coaches who either do not read (or cannot
decipher) actual physiological studies (some of
which are now also suspect, being set in such a
way as to slant results and that are also funded
on occasion by supplement companies who desire a
certain conclusion) simply repeat the party line
espoused in these publications, thereby
inculcating a new generation of misguided
trainees. At Max Contraction On-Line we offer
ammunition in this fight against deception;
providing you with the factual knowledge and
intellectual counter arguments you require in
determining the truth of the matter for yourself
and a means by which you can then apply the
factual data to your own training and fitness
objectives. As with the mind, you will find here
the works of those who have sought truth and to
raise the bar of human potential, rather than
deception for the sole purpose of commercial
gain.
